One major variety is the 1824/1 Capped Bust Half Dollar featuring a 4 over 1 overdate resulting from an 1824 date struck over an 1821 date. A very subtle part of the underlying "1" can be seen in the upper-left and upper-right portion of the "4". Collectors often get this variety confused with the 1824/4 variety. Although the way to distinguish this variety is to notice that the 4 and 2 are nearly touching each other with very little space between the two numbers (the 4 and 2 are much further apart in the 1824/4 varieties).
