What This Coin Looks Like (Obverse, Reverse, Mint Mark Location, Special Features, etc.): There were a few major varieties of the 1818 Capped Bust Half Dollar. The most common variety is simply the "Normal Date" variety with no errors and no special features - as depicted above. The two other major varieties are the 1818/7 Capped Bust Half Dollars with the "8" over "7" overdate. This resulted in parts of the underlying "7" being seen in the upper parts of the last "8" in the date. The difference between the two varieties has to do with the first number "8" in the 1818 date.
