What This Coin Looks Like (Obverse, Reverse, Mint Mark Location, Special Features, etc.):
1829 Capped Bust Half Dollar - Small Letters
One major variety is the 1829 Capped Bust Half Dollar "Normal Date" with small letters on the reverse of the coin. This variety features slightly smaller letters in the words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" as opposed to the large letters variety. It can be difficult to distinguish the difference between the small letters vs large letters. The easiest way to identify the variety is to observe the spacing between the words "UNITED STATES". The spacing will be much wider between the "D" and "S" on the small letters variety. The large letter variety will feature these letters much closer together. In Addition: There will be spacing between the words "OF AMERICA" (between "F" and "A") in the small letters variety - and almost no spacing at all between these letters in the large letters variety. (Note: There are a few varieties of the small letters type and the spacing and letter orientation will be slightly different. There is only one variety of the large letters type however). The differences between the 1829 small letters vs large letters is depicted below in the example comparison image:
