1819/8 Capped Bust Half Dollar - Small 9
One of the two major varieties of the 1819/8 Capped Bust Half Dollar features a small "9" in the date. This variety features an 1819 date struck over an 1818 date on the dies which resulted in a "9" over an underlying "8" overdate. Parts of the "8" can be seen within and around the "9" as depicted by the arrows in the example image below. The small "9" is thinner and smaller than the large "9" variety.
