What This Coin Looks Like (Obverse, Reverse, Mint Mark Location, Special Features, etc.): Another major variety is the 1828 Capped Bust Half Dollar with a square base on the "2". This variety features large number 8's in the 1828 date. Unlike the curl base 2 - the square base is flat and comes up at straight square angle. This variety has large 8's which can be distinguished from the small 8's variety by noticing that the small 8's have more spacing between the numbers whereas the large 8's are much closer to the numbers as they are larger. In addition: If you line up the tops of the "1" and first "8" in the 1828 date - the line will go above and over the "2" in the large 8's variety. However with the small 8's variety - this line will clearly interest the top of the 2.
