What This Coin Looks Like (Obverse, Reverse, Mint Mark Location, Special Features, etc.):
1847/6 Seated Liberty Half Dollar - 7 Over 6 RPD Error
One very rare and valuable variety of the 1847/6 Seated Liberty Half Dollar features a 7 Over 6 Repunched Date (RPD) error. This error is somewhat difficult to spot - especially with heavily worn coins. An 1847 date was struck over an 1846 date which resulted in the bottom curve of the underlying "6" seen barely visible just to the bottom-left side of the "7". In addition: A subtle doubled "4" can be seen as well where the bottom portion of an underlying "4" can be seen below and between the "8" and "4". These features are depicted by the arrows in the example image above. Source of example image is courtesy of Heritage Auction Galleries.
