There were two major style varieties of the "9" in the 1798 date. One variety features a knob on the lower curl of the 9 and the other variety features a pointed end with no knob. The difference between the knob 9 vs pointed 9 is depicted below in the example comparison image:
There are also two major varieties of the reverse of the coin. One variety features 4 vertical stripes or lines in each of the vertical bands within the eagle shield.
