What This Coin Looks Like (Obverse, Reverse, Mint Mark Location, Special Features, etc.):There were two major varieties of the 1829 $5 Gold Capped Bust Half Eagle. One variety features the Small Date (as depicted above) with smaller numbers. This variety was only struck on newer Reduced Diameter type Capped Bust Half eagle. The other variety is the Large Date with the larger numbers - which was only struck on the earlier large diameter coin.
