What This Coin Looks Like (Obverse, Reverse, Mint Mark Location, Special Features, etc.):

There were two major varieties of the 1834 $5 Capped Bust Gold Half Eagle. One variety features a crosslet "4" in the 1834 date (as depicted above). The "4" in this variety has a vertical cross over the right side end of the number "4" - whereas the plain "4" variety has no cross. The Crosslet 4 variety is the rarer and more valuable variety.
