1834 Classic Head $5 Gold Half Eagle - Crosslet 4 - Five Dollars
There were two major varieties of the 1834 $5 Classic Head Gold Half Eagle. One variety features a crosslet "4" in the 1834 date (as depicted above). The "4" in this variety has a vertical cross over the right side end of the number "4" - whereas the plain "4" variety has no cross. The Crosslet 4 variety is actually the rarer and far more valuable variety. The differences between the plain "4" vs crosslet "4" are easy to distinguish and is depicted below by the arrows in the example comparison image.
