1866 S Liberty Head $5 Gold Half Eagle - No Motto - Five Dollars
There are two major varieties of the 1866 S Liberty Head Gold Half Eagle. This (rarer and more valuable) variety is known as the Type 1 "No Motto" reverse - which does not feature the motto and banner "IN GOD WE TRUST" above the eagle on the reverse of the coin. This variety also has a much larger "S" mint mark below the eagle. An example image of this design is depicted above.
