1866 Liberty Head $5 Gold Half Eagle - With Motto - Five Dollars
1866 was a transitional year in the design of the Liberty Head Half Eagle. All gold half eagles minted in Philadelphia include the Type 2 "With Motto" design - which features the motto and banner "IN GOD WE TRUST" above the eagle on the reverse of the coin. There were no Type 1 "No Motto" coins were produced in Philadelphia (unlike the San Francisco minted coins which did feature two separate varieties).
