One major variety is the 1853/2 Liberty Head $20 Gold Double Eagle. This variety features a "3 Over 2" overdate in which an 1853 date appears to be struck over an 1852 date. Sometimes this is known as an 1853/'2' (note the single quotes around the '2') since it appears that the "3" is struck over something - which could be a "2" or it could simply be a die defect.
