1828 Capped Bust Dime - Large Date vs Small Date - Curl Base 2 vs Square Base 2
There were two major versions of the 1828 Capped Bust Dime. One variety had a large date and the "2" in the 1828 date had a "curled" based. The other variety had a smaller date and the "2" had a "square" base on it. The difference between the 1828 Large Date vs Small Date Capped Bust Dime can be seen in the example image above. Note the Curl Base "2" vs Square Base "2" depicted by the arrows. The small date - square base "2" variety is actually the newer reduced sized type dime.
