1843 D Liberty Head $2.50 Gold Quarter Eagle - Large D
One major variety of the 1843 D Liberty Head $2.50 Gold Quarter Eagle features a large "D" mint mark on the reverse of the coin. This is the rarer of the two mintmark varieties and features a much large mint mark. This is sometimes known as Variety 4-H and an estimated 3537 of these coins were all struck on October 7th of 1843. Source of example image above is courtesy of Heritage Auction Galleries.
