Advertised as a 1911 P V nickel. When I receive it. It had no mint mark P.

I appreciate your purchase of my 1911 P Liberty Head “V” Nickel. I suspect that coin collecting may be a new hobby for you. Welcome to this fascinating field of study called numismatics, many people derive a great deal of satisfaction from participating in this hobby.
I assure you that you did indeed purchase a 1911 “P” Nickel that was minted at the US Philadelphia Mint. The Philadelphia Mint did not include a mintmark on any of the nickels that were minted prior to 1942. They then included the “P” mintmark for the 35% silver wartime nickels that were minted from 1942 through 1945. They then removed the “P” mintmark from nickels minted in 1946 through 1979. In 1980 through 2018 they once again included the “P” mintmark.
Even though the Philadelphia Mint did not actually show the letter “P” on nickels minted prior to 1942, it is common practice among coin collectors to refer to these nickels as a “P” to designate them as being m
