Amazing piece of history, Minted overseas and sent to the US to get small coinage to the colonial US. These 1785 dated coins weigh less than their 1783 counterparts. Although these coins were all minted in 1785, These coins were most abundant in New York. As of August 1, 1787 these coins would be restricted by law. At this time The Republic of Vermont and other States would being minting their own copper coins at a more correct/acceptable weight. During these times the weight of the coins that contained these precious metals determined their value. More of a pattern coin, but these were documented and used during colonial times.
