This is a replica of the 1792 Copper Birch Cent that is marked 'COPY' on the reverse. Robert Birch was an engraver who was employed as a designer for proposed American coinage. The obverse of the proposed coin had LIBERTY PARENT OF SCIENCE & INDUSTRY stamped on it. There were a couple of designs including this one that had G*W.PT on the reverse which stood for George Washington President. However, this design was used on white metal rather than copper so the item listed is more unique. This replica has a plain edge; others had the edge lettered with TO BE ESTEEMED * BE USEFUL *. It is unknown as to how many Birch cent specimens were made. This is a way of owning a replica of this rare coin for educational purposes. The replica is made of copper and weighs 14.57+/- grams and measures 32+/- mm in diameter. Please bid with confidence based on my 100% positive feedback on eBay for over 10 years.
