This is a replica of the 1793 Copper Flowing Hair Chain Reverse Cent that is marked 'COPY' on the reverse. This was one of the first coins issued by the US Mint in 1793. This specimen has a plain edge, in contrast to the standard-issue vine and bars edge, with AMERICA on the reverse. Others had just the letters AMERI. There were only 36103 specimens made of the chain reverse cent. This is a way of owning a replica of this rare coin for educational purposes.
