A very solid example of this second-year half with lots of appeal. O-113 "A over E" variety - the A in STATES was repunched over an erroneous E. I tried to get it in the pictures, but slab glare was a challenge. Hopefully you'll be able to see it in the pictures, and it's easy to discern in hand. There is a lump next to the 5 that's easily seen and is a diagnostic for the variety.
Graded "GOOD DETAILS - DAMAGED" by NGC. I think the details are VG, and as for the damage.... an old, toned-over scratch through star #1 is the most obvious thing, another scratch just beside the Y, but neither of these seem too bad to me. There are also a few reverse rim bumps, a somewhat rough patch between U and N and the rim on the reverse, a few scratches by the eagle's right wing.... I don't know, the "damaged" designation seems a little harsh, but I present the coin as-is and let you make your own judgments. All in all, a very appealing, elegant old coin from the very early days of US coinage.
