This is a replica of the 1796 Draped Bust Small Eagle Reverse Half Dollar that is marked 'COPY' on the reverse. Draped Bust Half Dollars were minted from 1796-1807. The half dollars displayed the small eagle reverse in 1796 and 1797 only. In 1796, the half dollars displayed either 15 or 16 stars on the obverse. They were minted with the following words stamped on the edge of the coin: FIFTY CENTS OR HALF A DOLLAR. Only 3,918 half dollars were minted in 1796 and all in Philadelphia.
