1797 Draped Bust Large Copper Cent features the Reverse of 95 and a Grip Edge. This historic coin showcases Lady Liberty on the obverse, with the inscription "LIBERTY" above her and the year 1797 below. The reverse features an elegant wreath encircling the denomination "1 CENT". The words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and the fraction "1/100" wrap around the wreath. The Grip Edge design, characterized by raised lines on the edge of the coin, adds a unique and distinctive touch to this historic piece. It does show some environmental damages.
About the grip edge, a quote from PCGS "The 1797 Draped Bust Large Copper Cent bear what Walter Breen described as "Irregularly spaced incuse notches and raised pellets on edge." The purpose of this edge device is unknown. Certainly, it did not serve the same purpose as the edge lettering, ornamentation, and reeding that appears on silver and gold coins. Gripped edges appear only on two varieties: Sheldon 120b and 121b, which are common and semi-scarce, respectively. Mint State examples are very rare, with only two or three examples known of the two varieties combined."
