1798 Draped Bust Dollar, Small Eagle, 'COPY' Stamped on Reverse

This is a replica of the 1798 Draped Bust Dollar, Small Eagle Reverse, that is marked 'COPY' on the reverse. The 1798 Dollar was issued by the Philadelphia Mint with a lettered edge that read HUNDRED CENTS ONE DOLLAR OR UNIT. The 1798 Dollars were issued with both the Small Eagle reverse, and with a Heraldic Eagle reverse. Only 327,536 were minted in 1798 and all in Philadelphia. The Mint did not break down the mint numbers into small and heraldic eagle reverse specimens. This is a way of owning a replica of this rare coin for filling a spot in a collection, or for educational purposes. The replica is made of copper with a silver plating and weighs 26.44+/- grams.
