This is a replica of the 1806 Draped Bust Heraldic Eagle Half Dollar that is marked 'COPY' on the reverse. The Draped Bust Half Dollars were minted from 1796 to 1807. They displayed a lettered edge that stated: FIFTY CENTS OR HALF A DOLLAR. The 1806 Half was issued by the Philadelphia Mint and there were a number of versions minted, but only a total of 839576 coins of all versions were minted and all of the coins were minted in Philadelphia. This version was struck in 1806 but an 1805 die was used and the 6 was struck over the 5. This is a way of owning a replica of this rare coin for filling a spot in a collection, or for educational purposes. The specimen is made of brass with silver plating and weighs 13.54+/- grams.
