This 1817/3 Capped Bust Half Dollar is a remarkable specimen of a popular overdate variety, with only 1,000 estimated survivors across all grades. Struck from a reused 1813 die following the 1816 mint fire, the underlying "3" is prominently visible beneath the "7," adding historical intrigue. With vibrant sky-blue toning at the borders transitioning into rich amber and gold hues, this coin's dramatically toned surfaces are enhanced by a brilliant, incandescent luster. With a PCGS population of just 30 at this grade level, its eye appeal is exceptional, making it a valuable addition to any collection. No relevant comps are seen for this toned example; however, an inferior toned AU53 PCGS CAC sold recently for $5,160 08/24 HA.
