This is a replica of the 1836 Gobrecht Dollar, Type 1 Obverse, that is marked 'COPY' on the reverse. The Gobrecht Dollars were minted in Philadelphia from 1836 to 1839. Two types were minted in 1836. Type 1 had the designers name within the field above the date on the obverse, and 26 stars around the eagle on the reverse. It displayed a plain edge and coin alignment on the reverse. It is unknown just how many type 1 dollars were actually minted. This is a way of owning a replica of this rare denomination for filling a spot in a collection, or for educational purposes. The replica is made of copper with a silver plating and weighs 23.46+/- grams. It is 38+/- mm in diameter.
