An important rare Red Book variety, the Partial Drapery. It is the only die variety of its type. It is listed in the Guide Book at a substantial premium compared to the usual Large Stars 1838 dime. This Partial Drapery variety features a "drapery" beneath Liberty's elbow from a clash mark from the upright of the E in DIME. This coin displays a distinctively sharp strike, boasting near-perfect preservation of surfaces along with a subtle patina of olive-gray, lilac, and chestnut-brown. Even on the reverse, there are several character-adding die-clash. Only 1 comp and auction record is noted which was for the Simpson MS66+ PCGS CAC that sold 2 years ago in 2021 for $10,800. Next grade MS67 PCGS CAC ex Bender sold for $28,800 01/2023 With a spectacular pedigree and original, unmolested surface this coin will be featured well in any collection with some upside.
