1844 LIBERTY SEATED SILVER DOLLAR - AU+
Double Die Obverse (Quad Stripes) & MPD *
Top 30 varietyOnly 20,000 were minted for this date!
ATTRIBUTION:
OBV. 1: The obverse is lightly die-doubled, with the most noticeable spread seen in the presence of four vertical shield lines per stripe instead of the normal three. The top portion of an errant 1 and 8 appears in the drapery directly above the base.
REV. A: features numerous very heavy die lines scattered throughout the reverse.
Some of the most notable lines are in this area and above the left wing. Also note the significant extension of the lowest horizontal shield line through the left border of the shield.
The year 1844 was notable for the first of low-mintage silver dollars of this design.
Nice reflective silver-white surfaces and devices. Minor rim bump at 3:30 on reverse.
