1851/81 Attributed Braided Hair Large Cent PCGS XF Details Cleaned Rare Variety

This listing is for an 1851/81 Scarce and Popular Variety Braided Hair Cent has been attributed and authenticated by PCGS and graded as XF Details (cleaned).

"This variety is not just a standard, run of the mill overdate, it is an overdate over an inverted date" (Ron Guth, PCGS expert).

This very unusual variety was born when one of the dies had the date engraved  to the die but he failed to notice the date punch was inverted!

 After realizing the error, the engraver than compounded the situation by restamping the date into the die with the correct alignment. So was born this scarce variety of which only about 500 are known to exist.
