The most popular New Orleans Gold Dollar, 1855-O G$1 Type 2 is a scarce one-year type coin and the only piece within the short run type where a New Orleans piece was struck from one of two branch mint: the 1856-S G$1 and 1855-O G$1. Considered the third rarest New Orleans gold dollar, this coin is also the last New Orleans Gold Dollar. Always seen with a weak LL in dollar and 8, seldom are Type 2 1855-O seen well struck. This piece beyond the aforementioned points is unique in its strike. Look at the LL in Dollar on the reverse and the 8 in the year and compare this to any other piece. We certainly did and this is by far one the best struck "Full Date" pieces we have seen or researched, which has not been given enough attention yet. The surface bear no major marks and is smooth. With only 500 survivors in all grades, and having the approval of the green bean CAC sticker, there has been no AU58 PCGS CAC comp much less for a Full Date issue. An AU55+ PCGS CAC sold for $3,840 11/23 ST. This is a rare find for collectors and enthusiasts alike and the importance of this coin must be understood.
