Originating from the San Francisco Mint, this 1856-S Seated Liberty Quarter is known to be scarce in low grades, but become significantly scarcer in Mint State grades as only a few of them are available. This specimen derives from a total mintage of 286,000 and is one of the few 350 survivors with an estimate 0.12% survival rate. An extremely lustrous example boasted by a clean and mark free surface. The strike is sharp and surface mark-free to the extent that we wouldn't be surprised if this were an MS64, but a hit below O on the reverse holds it back.
It is showcased in the all new CACG slab and is tied with just 1 CAC stickered example as the finest. Firstly, the 2 finer ( MS64 and MS65) PCGS non-CAC are tucked away in long term collections, but more importantly the quality of this coin in our opinion looks comparable to the MS64. A Condition Census selected example and one you would not want to miss out on. A masterpiece and a one-of-a-kind example that ranks high. Hurry before it buries itself into another fine, well-curated collection for who knows how long.
