1863 Civil War Token - Indian Head

Cool Civil War Token, modeled somewhat after the Indian Cents of the day, but inscribed FORT LAFAYETTE on the headdress, and with the motto "MILLIONS FOR CONTRACTORS" on the obverse and "NOT ONE CENT FOR THE WIDOWS" on the reverse. Many of these tokens, minted by private entities to be used for commerce along with increasingly hard-to-find pocket change, contain interesting and passionate commentary on the political climate of the day. This particular issuer seems to suggest ample funding for armaments but a lack of support for widows and families of those who have lost their lives in battle.

In good circulated shape, scratch on the cheek, appealing original surfaces.
