Item Description
Struck from a near terminal Obverse die. Under normal circumstances, this die would have been retired, however the demands of the Civil War economy kept it in production. There are several heavy die cracks and severe rim "cuds" from the collar breaking down. This coin may actually be Uncirculated, however there are some scratches along Liberty's face (shown in the enlarged image) and I believe that it was dipped at one point a long time ago. Other than this problem, a generally attractive coin.
