1864-L Indian Head Cent VF Detail Full LIBERTY SEMI-KEY DATE Dark Minor Porosity
Semi-Key Date 1864-L on Ribbon Variety Indian Head Cent in a VF Detail grade range.
The 1864-L Variety is one of the more well known and popular Indian Head Cent varieties in the entire series. 1864 saw several changes in the design of the Indian Head Cent. The US Mint transitioned from Copper Nickel thicker coins to a bronze, thinner coin. The designer, James Longacre's initial was added to the ribbon starting with the 1864 Bronze Indian Head Cent. The L variety is easily identified even in lower grades when the L is usually worn off as it is one of the higher points on the design, by the bust of the Indian. On the non-L varieties, the bust is rounded whereas on the L on Ribbon variety, the bust is pointed like the one we have here.
The 1864-L Indian Head Cent is extremely scarce in VF/XF grades. The coin has some light prosity issues and is dark, but otherwise, is in good shape.
As always, SAM's Coins & Heavy Metal DOES NOT use stock photos. The coins in the pictures are the exact coins you are bidding on and will receive.
