Jefferson Coolidge, a prominent Boston businessman and U. S. Ambassador to France in 1892-3. He was a great grandson of Thomas Jefferson. He served as the financial manager of the Amoskeag Manufacturing Company and later as President. He was president of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad. He had interests in the East India trade, textiles, railroads, banking, publishing and electricity. He organized the United Fruit Co. He was a overseer at Harvard for over 10 years and donated the Jefferson Research Laboratory to the institution. Lawrence Manufacturing Co. was a textile produce of which Coolidge was a financier.
