1869 P Two Cents

All two-cent pieces were struck at the "mother" mint in Philadelphia. Because Philadelphia was the main mint, all 19th and many 20th century coins didn't carry the "P" mint mark. It was not added until 1979-80. Back in 1869, two-cent mintages dropped, and just over 1.5 million pieces were produced. Low-mintage 2¢ pieces from that year recall a landmark in transportation - the joining of the Transcontinental Railroad at Promontory Point, Utah, with the Golden Spike!
