please forgive the photos- they were taken at the bank under poor lighting but the coin looks much nicer in hand and was part of an award winning set that has been broken up. here's another ever-popular San Francisco issue that has a low original mintage and population numbers but still sells for less than what similar rarity sells for in other series. this pretty little lady has great luster and the color is a beautiful deep rich golden orange. the eye appeal is outstanding for a circulated gold coin of the era. a truly difficult date to find in high grade and another one extremely rare in mint state. a super example to fill that empty hole in your set. just how rare is it? well, NGC has graded only 112 coins in all grades and conditions combined in their 30 years in the grading business, with many of those are re-submissions fishing for a higher grade and profit to the submitters. PCGS reports that they have graded only 96 in all grades combined in their 30 year history, attesting to the NGC numbers and it's true rarity. stack these numbers up against any 1916-D dime, gem BU red 1909-S VDB cent or 1893-S Morgan dollar for relative rarity and sheer value. this is another sleeper that should not be ignored- it took us a lot longer to fill this hole in our set than many of the rarer Charlotte & Dahlonegas in fact. David Akers says the average grade for the issue, garnered from auction data, is F-19, less than a lowly VF, so even locating one in premium AU condition is a real treat. many numismatic researchers and scholars agree that if just several new collectors came into the series in a serious way, these would finally realize their true value due to the competition for super rare dates like this one. the NGC online price guide puts an average AU55 at $7,000.00 and PCGS puts it at $7,900.00, with higher grades selling for significantly more. the buyer will not be disappointed with this beauty.

Why buy our extra coins for your collection? Simple- because we are collectors looking for beautiful high quality coins for our collection, not dealers looking for a quick buck here on the internet's biggest dealer dumping grounds. If it wasn't above average, top of grade or downright undergraded, we didn't buy it. If it was rare but has problems and we're now selling it, we will describe it as such, otherwise you can expect a nice eye appealing coin for your money and a money back guaranty that you'll love it as much as we did. We love this hobby and want you to enjoy it as much as we have all these years too!

Policy: Payment due upon purchase. Please do not buy if you don't intend to pay immediately. If you need more time or would like to arrange a lay-away, we would be happy to work with you. 3 day return privilege (item must be postmarked for return within 3 business days after it arrives in your box), buyer pay return postage unless we made a mistake in the listing.
