This is a replica of an 1871-S Liberty Seated Dollar that is marked 'COPY' on the reverse. The coin has a reeded edge like the standard-issue Mint coin. The Liberty Seated Dollar was minted from 1840-1873. The 1840-1865 dollars did not display the Motto IN GOD WE TRUST on the reverse. Dollars minted from 1866-1873 displayed the Motto on the reverse above the eagle. However, the San Francisco Mint did NOT in fact mint ANY dollars in 1871, and this specimen dated 1871-S does NOT display the motto on the reverse. The replica is made of copper with a silver plating and weighs 24.74+/- grams. It is 36.5+/- mm in diameter.
