This is a replica of the 1873-CC Variety 5 Liberty Seated Quarter Dollar that is marked 'COPY' on the reverse. The Liberty Seated quarter dollars were minted in five different varieties. Variety 5 was minted in 1873 and 1874. Variety 5 displayed the motto IN GOD WE TRUST above the eagle on the reverse. In addition, Variety 5 quarters displayed arrows at the date on the obverse to denote the change in weight from 6.22 to 6.25 grams. During 1873, the Carson City Mint issued only 12,462 specimens of this variety. This is a way of owning a replica of this rare coin for filling a spot in a collection, or for educational purposes.
