Item Description
An attractive circulated example of this ever popular Key Date issue, with original brown surfaces. You may have noticed that I have not mentioned a grade. By the current standards of the grading services, this is likely to certify as a VG-8 if submitted. You can compare this coin to the PCGS VG_8 example also available, or to any number of Good to Very Good specimens shown on CoinFacts to see what I mean. This date typically comes with a weak Obverse rim, usually anywhere between 9:00 and 3:00 depending upon the coin, which is a marker of authenticity. This coin however has a full bold rim, just a trace of weakness above STATES. Traces of the tops of various letters in LIBERTY show - that and a full rim are usually enough to get an assigned grade of VG. However, I am Old School (some would say a dinosaur) and feel more of those letters should show. So, I have priced this at the equivalent of a PCGS/CAC Good-6, which I will guarantee as a grade if submitted. As to why I don’t send it in myself, I have several other coins of this date in stock at present, and wanted to make this available to someone who just wanted a nice coin for an album set.
