1878-S Morgan Silver Dollar Housed in INS Antiquated 1988 Oversized Slab - Choice BU Uncirculated

This listing is for an 1878-S Morgan Silver Dollar housed in an old INS (International Numismatic Society) Double Sized, Photo Slab. The slab is oversize with a digital image of the coin on one side.

I have had numerous INS Slabs over the years and have found their grading to be pretty good, often conservative as I have had a handful of these upgrade by 1 and sometimes 2 full points. I will say on this one, the numeric grade assigned is about right but INS also labeled this one as DMPL which it definitely is not. It is not even PL, so I am not sure if the coin changed over the last 35 years since encapsulation, or if they just missed it (badly).

Regardless, these INS Slabs are getting harder and harder to find. The slab itself is collectible. The coin itself is full uncirculated and shows no signs of harsh cleaning, abuse or other problems.

INS International Numismatic Society was around late 70s early 80s. They were located in Washington DC then moved to Dallas TX and were in the same building as the Heritage Auctions Building. Heritage Auctions actually acquired them circa 1987.They would grade coins and digitally image them, Put them in an soft encapsulated flip but inside the flip the coin was encased in some sort of inert plastic shell. I have never seen one like it. They would attach papers and a COA and bill of ownership. It was quite involved. I made a YouTube video of  four (4) previous INS Coins I owned, 3x 1881-S and one 1884-O Morgan Dollars from before I submitted them which you should be able to find with a little searching if you're interested.

At SAM's, we use Stock Photos very infrequently. The coin in the photos is the exact coin you will receive.

All invoices must be pre-approved (by me) to ensure the coin you are purchasing is still available for sale. We sell on multiple sites, locally, etc. We do our bets to maintain current inventory, but sometimes one coin may sell twice within extremely close proximity of each other. We will pre-approve any/all invoices submi9tted promptly, usually in less than an hour from the time you checkout.

Pay only 1 shipping charge, (the highest) and all the rest ship at no extra charge. I will update shipping cost at the time I approve the invoice.
