1878-S Morgan Silver Dollar Old Tan Border PCI Choice BU PL Prooflike
Attractive and popular first year issue, this 1878-S Morgan Silver Dollar has been encapsulated in a highly collectible old Tan Border PCI Holder. This coin has attractive PL surfaces on both the obverse and reverse and in my opinion, has been accurately graded as a choice BU coin with the PL designation merits warranted - IN MY OPINION.
\As PCI is not an approved grading service on eBay, the grade is covered up. If you would like to know what it reads, I will let you know in a direct private message.
PCI was around since the 1980s. At one point they were sold to Hallmark but then they reacquired the company after Hallmark failed to make a go of it. PCI was well known during this era when they were using Green and Red Borders as having accurate, if not conservative grading and among the numismatic community were considered to be for the most part, consistent, reliable and accurate with their grading. In later years, perhaps in the early 1990s with the introduction of the gold border slabs their reputation started to falter and by the late 1990s after PCI was bought out by an international firm, they were relegated to a laughing stock and joke as far as a quality grading service went.
