This is a replica of the 1879 Flowing Hair Obverse Stella $4 Gold Piece that is marked 'COPY' on the reverse. Stellas were only minted in 1879 and 1880 and actual mintage figures are unknown. The existing Stellas display either a Flowing Hair Obverse or a Coiled Hair Obverse. This is a way of owning a replica of this rare piece for filling a spot in a collection, or for educational purposes. The replica is made of brass with gold plating.
