1880/79-O Morgan Silver Dollar Unc Detail Light Cleaned Reflective PL Qualities
This listing is for one of the more popular and well known varieties of Morgan Silver Dollars, an 1880/79-O in Uncirculated Condition. Although the coin has been lightly cleaned and has a few wispy hair lines, the coin retains excellent mint luster and has glassy, reflective surfaces on both the obverse and the reverse. As to whether or not there would be enough for one of the major TPG Services to declare it PL, it is close. It is also a moot point what their opinion or analysis would be as they would almost certainly knock the coin for the light cleaning which would mean no PL suffix would be possible no matter how reflective the qualities are.
Regardless, this is a very nice coin and a tougher, scarcer variety The variety can be authenticated by comparing the last two digits of the date, the second 8 and the 0 against the images of certified examples either by using Photograde or Coin Explorer, Variety Attribution - both services of the top two grading companies. Remnants of the 7 can easily and clearly be seen in the top loop of the 2nd 8 and the top piece of the 9 can be seen in the top right quadrant of the zero (0) in the date, the last digit.
The majority of the certified 1880/79-O Morgans also have the micro O variety which this coin has, further adding to the authentication of the coin's date/variety.
Strong reflective qualities on both the obverse and reverse further add to the appeal and value of this specimen and examples of this can be seen in the several pictures taken with the coin held against a box of orange/black and yellow color, (the box is not part of the sale and is used strictly to demonstrate the mirrors and PL qualities of the 1880/79-O Morgan Dollar that is for sale).
