3(revised) III2-3 - C3c (Doubled Date & Ear, Spiked Wing) (177) reeds I-2 R-3
Obverse III2-3 - Doubled date with 1 slightly doubled below bottom cross bar. First 8 slightly doubled on left and right inside of upper loop. Second 8 and 2 doubled at top and upper left side. Date set close to rim. Ear slightly doubled at lower right inside and bottom outside.
Reverse C3c - Right C of mint mark set low. Two short diagonal die gouges on inside of eagles left wing next to the body on later states.
Comments:
1. Next die state is VAM-3A
2. Note: Not all 1882-CC VAM-3s will exhibit the die gouges on the inside of the eagle's left wing next to body.
3. The die progression for these die is VAM-3, VAM-3A, VAM-3 repolished, VAM-3B, VAM-3C, VAM-3D.
