1882-CC Morgan Silver Dollar Old PCI Green Border AU58 PL Prooflike

Attractive and always popular 1882-CC Morgan Silver Dollar, this Carson City issue has been encapsulated in a highly collectible old Green Border PCI Holder as PCI AU58PL.

The holder states the coin as PL but I do not see there being enough PL qualities or reflectivity to call it Prooflike. There is a little reflectivity, but not strong enough in my opinion anyway. The coin is very lightly circulated, I would agree with the AU58 grade assigned.

PCI was around since the 1980s. At one point they were sold to Hallmark but then they reacquired the company after Hallmark failed to make a go of it. PCI was well known during this era when they were using Green and Red Borders as having accurate, if not conservative grading and amongst the num ismatic community were considered to be for the most part, consistent, reliable and accurate with their grading. In later years, perhaps in the early 1990s with the introduction of the gold border slabs their reputation started to falter and by the late 1990s after PCI was bought out by an international firm, they were relegated to a laughing stock and joke as far as a quality grading service went.
