1883 Liberty Nickel "WITH CENTS" (Lot Z67)

1883 was the first year of the Liberty "V" Nickel. Initially, these Nickels were minted without the word "CENTS"! Racketeers gold plated the 1883 "V" Nickels and passed them off as $5 Gold Pieces, because they were gold and had a large "V" on the reverse. When the US Treasury became aware of this, they started minting the 1883 Liberty "V" Nickels with the word cents. This Nickel is one the Nickels including the word "CENTS"
