Item Description
This is a replica of the 1885 Trade Dollar that is marked 'COPY' on the reverse. Trade dollars were minted from 1873 to 1885. In 1885, only 5 specimens were minted, all in Proof condition, and all in Philadelphia. The 1885 Trade Dollars were unknown to collectors until 1908. None of these are listed in the Mint director's report, and numismatists are of the belief that they were not a part of the regular Mint issue for this year. The coin has a reeded edge like Mint standard-issue Trade dollars of other years. The replica is made of copper with silver plating and weighs 24.25+/- grams. It is 37+/- mm in diameter.
