1886-O Morgan Silver Dollar AU Detail Lite Cleaned Off Brand Slab Tough In AU
The 1886-O New Orleans Morgan Silver Dollar is one of the tougher coins to find in Choice AU and Mint State.
This coin is holdered in an off brand slab and has solidly AU Detail, though the coin has been lightly wiped as evidenced by just a few wispy hair lines.
The 1886-O is one of the poorest struck coins of the series (Morgan Dollar Authoritarian and Expert, Q David Bowers, of Stacks & Bowers, opines only the 1891-O has a consistently poorer strike in fact)
There is still a free flowing cartwheel effect and the coin maintains excellent, natural eye appeal and shows very little wear. While the eagle's breast is very rounded, the poor strike contributes to a lack of breast feathers that would be seen on many of the other dates of the series, particularly the early 80's San Francisco and Philadelphia coins.
Liberty's hair lines are pretty much 100% full and the ear, one of the high points, is rounded with luster flowing over it indicating there is no to minimal wear .
Despite the coin having been very lightly cleaned, this is a very nice example and a VERY tough date to find this close to mint state
Greysheet Bid in the lowest possible AU grade is $125/$160
Greysheet Bid/Ask in the mid AU grade range is $225/$290
Greysheet Bid/Ask in the last possible AU grade before the mint state grades start is $380/$495
The coin in the photos is the exact coin you will receive.
