“Picked for your Pleasure!”

Up for your consideration is an original

  • 1891 Liberty Seated Dime, Type 4 Legend Obverse, Circulated VG10 (consigner graded)
  • Full "LIBERTY" visible
  • Composition of 90% silver and 10% copper
  • Philadelphia Mint, (Mintage of 15,310,000)

GENERAL COIN FACTS/DESCRIPTION:  The Liberty Seated Dime (a.k.a Seated Liberty Dime) is a ten-cent coin that was minted in the United States from 1859 to 1891.  The obverse features Lady Liberty is seated on a rock, holding a staff, and bearing a shield with the word “LIBERTY” on a flowing ribbon. “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” adorns the periphery and the date appears at the bottom center.  On the reverse, “ONE DIME” is centered in the middle of the coin surrounded by a wreath tied by a bow at the bottom.

Like the half dime, the dime underwent a design change in 1860. The Liberty Seated motif was retained on the obverse, but the stars were removed, and in their place, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA”, formerly on the reverse, was added. The reverse wreath was restyled to a larger format, enclosing the denomination expressed as “ONE DIME”. This style was produced continuously from 1860 through 1891.
